    The Program

This program will help young people to develop ideas and the ambition to become successful in their career/business. Evidence shows that many young people are held back by barriers such as lack of access to business skills, technology, networks and finance.

By developing mentoring relationships between young people and professionals, the program will help to bridge the gap and ensure that more young people can gain access to the workforce and contribute positively to society.

In response to this need, iROCK! has developed an innovative solution that combines hands-on mentoring with technology to offer practical and measurable support to rising stars from diverse backgrounds.

Contact Us if you wish to be a mentor or a mentee.

    Online Mentoring Platform

iMentor matches aspiring mentees with mentors around the world.  Using our online platform, mentees will spend 8
months working one-to-one with their mentor to achieve their individual goals.  Mentors and mentees will also have an opportunity to build their career/business skills through bespoke training workshops provided by iROCK!, and
become part of a global community of committed, ambitious executives and entrepreneurs who are invested in each
    other’s success.

The program aims to increase confidence, improve performance and ultimately create a cadre of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders.

    How Does the Program Work?

The mentoring in this program is done online using our specially-designed platform, which allows for greater
flexibility and opportunities for networking and learning.

Research shows that online mentoring makes it possible for those who might otherwise be excluded due to their gender or geographical location to participate in mentoring relationships. The mentees and mentors in this program have been able to gain a fresh perspective, widen their networks to a global level and build life-changing relationships over thousands of miles.

Mentees and mentors meet through the platform for a set period every month over 8 months.

The key success factor for the mentoring relationship is commitment from both sides.

  • Testimonials

For me iRock came at a time in my life when I had hit a stump. It became exactly what I need to move forward and closer to realising a dream. I’ve come to understand that having a mentor or being part of a mentoring programme assists one to achieve goals quicker than when doing things on your own. Because you have to be accountable, alone it’s so easy to keep saying to yourself I’ll do it later or tomorrow.

The changes that I now see in my life as a result of having being part of iRock is that, I started attending Entrepreneurship events/seminars which is something that I never thought was available to me before iRock. I realised that London is full of free resources that can equip me. I was also inspired to take courses at the London College of Fashion on how to make handbags in line with my dream business. I’m not yet where I want to be but I’m also not where I was before iRock. Thank you iRock team (Viola & Tari) for your passion in wanting to enable woman of colour.

    Bongi - 2015

Viola Ncube, the founder of I-ROCK is the most inspirational human being I have ever met. She makes me feel like there is nothing I cannot achieve in life as long as I have a vision and I am willing to give my all to make my dreams become reality. She has taught me that everything I do, has to be only the best and nothing less.
Whatever project Viola lays her hands on, she looks at the whole picture, and is a constant reminder of leading by example.

I know I was probably one of her most difficult students ever, but she never gave up on me. Instead she kept encouraging me to get up every time I felt like I was falling.
Viola is a very dynamic woman who has a tremendous ability to connect with people where they are really at, inspiring and nurturing them to move in a positive direction. I cherish how she pushes me beyond my control. I have learnt so much from Viola and I am truly thankful for having her in my life.

    Lisa 2015

Business Owner http://www.Gloconsultancy.gmail.com I feel honored to be among one of the very privileged women to have benefited from IROCK!! UK through the founder Viola Ncube in 2011.

I recently hosted a fashion and beauty pageant – (Miss Zim Diamond) of which the emphasis was   intended to raise the profile of talented women.  It was more than a beauty pageant, with emphasis being placed on contestants who demonstrate entrepreneurial ability, commitment to charitable causes and who portray a positive image of the modern woman.

I was lucky enough to have my top three winner prizes sponsored by through IROCK! UK.  This included mentorship packages.  I can proudly say two of the contestants- Lorraine Chinouriri – 1st Princess and Ashleigh Cloete- Miss Personality have been able to share great testimonies from the mentorship experience in IROCK!.

I personally have benefited from one to one mentoring sessions with Viola Ncube and as a result my business has grown. I have recently been able to successfully penetrate the African market. Through IROCK!UK mentoring I was able to recognise my strengths and use them to add value to my business and expand internationally.

Through IROCK! UK I also had the privilege of attending, “The Women in Public Life Awards” where I met Cabinet Secretary- Gus O’Donnell who retired end of December.  He gave insight to his personal reflections on his time as Cabinet Secretary, what the big issues were ahead for Civil Servants and Public Sector workers and how women, in particular, are being affected by the current economic situation.  It was very insightful.

IROCK! has created an inspirational platform for me that motivates and inspires me to not only develope my dreams but to realize them as well whilst meeting and being inspired by amazing role models.

Glorianne Francis – Class of 2011 - Mentee

I was honoured to be invited by my mentor to the Visible Women’s conference titled ‘Women in Leadership: Why Now. Why Us” at The Commonwealth Club, London. To say I left speechless, motivated, driven and more ambitious than ever is true indeed. The four guest speakers were Carlene Firmin MBE, Matilda MacAttram, Caroline Marsh and Rosemary Chileshe , four women from different walks of life with one goal…to be successful in everything they did
and be able to make a positive difference to everyone they met every step of the way. Each woman’s story, journey and ability to overcome obstacles resonated with every woman in that conference and further instilled the belief I had all along, that I could do and be anything I set my mind to.

    Virgin Pioneers Network
At the Women in Leadership networking event, Rosemary Chileshe advised me to go and join Virgin Media Pioneers which I promptly did, a couple of weeks after I was chosen by the Virgin Media Pioneers team to be one of two lucky people to be able to attend ‘The Women of the future Awards’! It was a phenomenal experience
where for once it felt normal to be sat among a crowd of powerful women and quite rightly so!  Virgin Media Pioneers has been a fantastic network for me to meet like-minded people and connect with people who are as passionate about business and change as I am. I also got to meet Caroline Marsh, she is a Self Made Millionaire
but also IROCK!UK’s Patron!  I have also attended her ‘Women in Business’ events and apart from her invaluable business advice I won her ‘Concept to Cash in 90days’ business mentor programme worth almost £3000! I still grin just thinking about it!

Getting 02 Think Big Project funding, I attended another Visible Women’s conference titled ‘Women in Business: Persistence. Profit, Progress’ yet again another thought provoking and inspiring conference with the four guest speakers: Ellie Patsalos, Ronke Lawal, Geeta Sidhu-Robb and Justice Williams MBE. During the conference 3 ladies were given the opportunity to pitch their business ideas and win £2500 worth of funding. After that, I contacted o2 Think Big Project and pitched my business idea and I was ecstatic, o2 Think Big Project believed in my company and
rewarded me the grant, now I have far more confidence in what I am doing than I had before and a greater sense of responsibility in regards to helping my local community and the youth. Self belief is wonderful but reassurance from people who believe enough in you to give you the finances to help it grow is a big confidence booster.

Acumen – Dragon’s Den event at Hub Westminster
My mentor again invited me to attended Acumen, a business networking event held at Hub Westminster with a ‘Dragon’s Den’ concept. Social Entrepreneurs pitched to Angel investors, who in turn asked them questions about their businesses to give them the opportunity to win funding for office space. It was more a ‘What not to do’ learning session for me because watching the pitcher’s body language, questions and the way they delivered their pitch made me realise the small mistakes that could lose you a once in a lifetime opportunity. The room was filled with millionaires wanting to invest!

Wow! All this has happened in the last 3 months! It has all been mind

blowing and it was a brilliant end to the year. With the powerful

women behind me in IROCK!! UK mentoring me for my career and in

my private life, I look forward to attending and creating amazing

experiences in 2012! Thank you IROCK!UK for informing, teaching,

introducing and empowering me every step of the way.

Lorraine Chinouriri– Class of 2011 – 2012 Mentee

Who knew that on a Saturday afternoon, little old me would be walking into the Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML)
headquarters in Canary Wharf, as if I owned the place? Well it was thanks to collaboration between The Knowledge Channel and the BAML, and invited by IROCK!UK who made it all happen. I took part in an inspirational workshop which was aptly called ‘Empowering you to excel’ and I can honestly say that it did just that, giving me the ‘fire in my belly’, which is essential when tediously job seeking as I am in the process of doing.

For me, the most significant piece of advice I acquired on the day was from Tim Campbell, who spoke to us in a frank and open way. Amongst his five ‘Ps’ (Passion, Plan, Perseverance and Partners) was what he liked to call ‘Planetary Assistance’ which is basically good old-fashioned luck, or the notion of being ‘in it to win it’. Mr.
Campbell assured myself, and the rest of the participants present at the workshop, that having a clear goal is vital, and once combined with the five ‘Ps’, we are likely to succeed in whatever we set out to do.

I was more than satisfied with the high quality of the workshop, and was particularly glad that instead of being anywhere else on that Saturday, I was present and able to acquire such invaluable advice from high profile achievers such as Hanna Acquah, Viola Ncube and Tim Campbell. I was slightly surprised that there weren’t more
students and young professionals present on the day, as I feel that it was an opportunity not to be missed.

I will definitely be attending the next two workshops, which are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

Rochelle, graduate in Spanish & French graduate – Class of 2012

I’ve lived on the outskirts of London and always feared moving to the big city. In September 2011 I competed in Miss Zim Diamond 2011. Through it, I discovered iRock UK!  mentoring programme. While studying towards a sports coaching degree, I took an interest in sports massage and how to run a health and fitness business, which is my long term goal.

Through my mentor I have been offered a fully paid graduate opportunity for a one year trainee management programme with Ajala Spas- Grange Hotels based in the heart of the Financial District! My trainee management programme at Grange Hotel is giving me the structure and knowledge I need on how to run a health spa. I also keep myself motivated by attending IROCK! UK’s networking events and conferences like “Women in Business”  organised by IROCK!! UK An event that has had great impact on me was a Bank of America workshop I was invited to by IROCK! UK! with one of the speakers being Tim Campbell, winner of television programme, ‘The Apprentice’. I really related to him because he talked about the struggles he faced when he was looking for a job and the pain of constant rejection. He mentioned the four Ps that helped him succeed:

    • Passion: being enthusiastic
    • Plan: write a list of list of what you want to do in life e.g. travelling
    • Perseverance: single-minded focus; never giving up; finding alternative ways and channelling your energy onto a different path
    • Partners: networks; connections; brands – because brands makes fans
      •

I meet my mentor monthly, and we skype regularly as she keeps on top of the agreed life plan, career and financial goals set for myself in 2012.Thanks to BRG UK! I have achieved some of my goals quicker than I thought. Their mentoring programme has made me realise that as a woman, there are no limits to what I can do. I’ve continued in the mentoring programme because I’ll need their help for when I finish my trainee management to set up my own spa!  I just wish more young people could have access to these life changing opportunities.

    Ashleigh Cloete – Class of 2011 – 2012

Running a Company can become a case of not being able to see the wood for the trees, and since joining IROCK! as a Business mentee it has certainly helped to shift my thoughts process and encouraged me to think outside the box. IROCK! challenged me and my pre-conceived thoughts, making me reach for new goals.

I really appreciate the support, advise and knowledge which has signposted me to lots of opportunities in the Business Arena, which i did not know exist. IROCK! has given me many leads and introductions helping me to grow in Business and moulding me to be a successful empowered Black Woman who rock. I have been to a lot of High Profile Business Scene networking events which combined excellent networking with very positive people. In the process getting a grant to start an intense High Profile Business training and privileged to meet Mavis Amankwah, award winning founder and Managing Director of PR & Communications agency Rich Visions.

The founder of IROCK! Viola Ncube who happens to be my Business Mentor is a very engaging, professional individual with exemplary skills in developing and actioning Business Strategies and Plans. Viola has a wealth of business knowledge and experience in the Corparate World. The short time i have known her i have straight away beyond
reasonable doubts that she is capable of clearly thinking through issues that a business face, and then inspiring a team to deliver a creative solution as per say Dream It Dare It Do It.

I am proud to say IROCK! is the first to give me a one-to-one quality advice and fact based experience I would be prepared to pay for – and so to have this provided for free of charge by one Black Girl who rock, a leading expert in the Corparate World is a great honour and i am blessed.

I am very grateful for everything that IROCK! has done and is doing. I look forward to an ongoing relationship with IROCK!.

LINDA SATIMBURWA – Class of 2012 - Mentee

The Sister to Sister programme provided an extensive base of knowledge and experience in my chosen industry. My internship was a little different than typical hospitality internship. When I first started my internship at iRock!. I was unsure of what career path I wanted to pursue after graduating from university. I knew I wanted to work in hospitality however I didn’t know what aspect.

My first job at iRock! involved attending meetings with potential designers, sponsors and partners for a black tie event,  ‘Tribes of Africa’ with a mentor. As a current Travel and Tourism Graduate with very little experience  working with professionals I struggled with my confidence in presentation, interviews and in partaking in the planning of the event however on the day of the event I became very involved  working backstage with the stylist, makeup artists ,models and events co- ordinator and straight away I knew events is what I wanted to do. A couple weeks later I was paired with an events mentor and began working for iRock as a full time project manager. With guidance from my mentor as an intern I observed working as a team , research skill, creating and marketing an event.

This internship has aided to my career growth and I believe I am now well on my way to getting my job in events management. I couldn’t have had a better experience and I would recommend this programme to anyone who is looking to kick-start their career in business.

Alice: Class of 2012 - Mentee

Being a member of iRock! is both an honor and a privilege. The program exposes you to the real world from a positive perspective that encourages you to believe that nothing is unattainable or out of reach. With iRock! the words “Dream it, Dare it, Do it” are more than just a slogan: They are a way of life. As a young woman and an
aspiring professional, I have embraced the iRock! ideals of sisterhood, sharing and empowerment. iRock! is a strong foundation for all its mentees, hence for us, the sky is not the limit; it is a stepping stone…

    Maijhi: Class of 2013 - 2015- Mentee

As a professional woman, perhaps not of colour but of diversity, I am proud to be a member of iROCK UK as I believe in the power of mentoring and the need for such an enterprise which seeks to link professionals with young women who will benefit from their guidance to make their journeys far less challenging and far more enriching than those of their mentors. While tirelessly seeking internship, work experience and employment of opportunities for young women in all professional fields, iROCK also strives to ensure these women, and in fact their mentors, are supported professionally and holistically – an organisation I wish we could have had years ago and I hope to continue supporting in the future.

    Sinem: Class of 2012 - 2014 - Mentor
